Darrell Overstreet Nature Boardwalk

The Darrell Overstreet Nature Boardwalk is a newly dedicated natural space located in Jackson, Alabama.

The boardwalk was recently named in memory of Darrell Duane Overstreet, a long-time Jackson resident and dedicated city employee who passed away in 2024. Before his retirement, Overstreet worked for many years in the local timber and pulp industry, then returned to serve the City of Jackson in its maintenance department.

Dedication Ceremony

  • Date: February 21, 2026

  • Time: 11:00 AM

  • Significance: The Jackson City Council officially announced the naming on February 10, 2026, to honor Overstreet’s service to the community.

What to Expect

While specific maps for the “Darrell Overstreet” branding are still being updated due to its recent naming, the site is the city’s primary nature boardwalk. It offers:

  • Scenic Trails: A wooden walkway designed to allow visitors to explore local wetlands and wooded areas safely.

  • Birding and Wildlife: The area is a prime spot for observing local Clarke County wildlife, including various bird species and native flora.

  • Community Space: It serves as a quiet retreat for walking, photography, and educational outings for local students.
