Jackson, Alabama, is currently undertaking several significant infrastructure and community development projects to revitalize its downtown and improve public services.
Downtown Streetscape Project: A major “Downtown Revitalization” project is currently active and expected to be completed later in 2026. This includes:
New sidewalks, curbs, and landscaping to make the area more pedestrian-friendly.
Installation of new lighting and underground water line replacements to improve utility reliability for businesses.
Highway Improvements: Several road projects are planned or underway for 2025–2026, including:
Micro-milling, resurfacing, and traffic striping on SR-13 (US-43).
Intersection improvements and access management at the junction of SR-13 (US-43) and SR-69.

Safety Upgrades: Recent projects include fire alarm system upgrades at both Clarke County High School and Jackson Middle School to ensure student safety.
Pedestrian Access: New ADA-compliant sidewalks are being installed along Mayton Drive, Carl E. Newsome, and College Avenue to improve student and resident mobility
Medical Facility Upgrades: A major $11.1 million renovation and expansion of the Jackson Medical Center is in the bidding and award phase. The project includes a 6,000 sq. ft. clinic expansion, a potential new emergency department, and a full re-roofing of the existing hospital.
Housing Growth: The city is making progress on the “100 Homes Initiative,” a critical effort to address housing shortages. Reports indicate more homes were built in the last year than in the previous 15–20 years combined.
Airport Upgrades: Plans are in place for the construction of a new 10-unit T-Hangar and access taxiway at the William E. Stewart Jackson Municipal Airport to support local aviation and economic growth.
Industrial Readiness: Jackson has recently been a beneficiary of state SEEDS grants, which fund site preparation and infrastructure to attract new industries to the region.
Education to Jobs Pipeline: Local leaders are working with the school system to launch an Innovation Center, designed to create a direct pipeline from Jackson’s classrooms to local industrial and technical jobs.
